Sarah Ann KENNEY was born on 7 December 1888 at 8 Cross Love Street, Sheffield and died on 27 December 1972. She was first married to Reuben BENSON on 11 April 1908 and then William CHATTERTON 22 April 1939.

Sarah Ann was the illegitemate daughter of Sarah Ellen KENNEY. Sarah Ellen can be found on the 1881 Census living with her mother Sarah age 35 and brother John age 12 and James age 3. None of the family can be found on the 1891 or 1901 Censuses.

It is believed from relatives that Sarah Ellen married at least three times, first to an Edward CONNOR, then someone called GILLESPIE and then someone called MOOR/E. I have Sarah Ellen's marriage certificate to an Edward CLASBY dated 1 October 1889.

On Sarah Ann's birth certificate there is no father's name, neither is there any on her first marriage to Reuben BENSON in 1908 where she states she is living at 64 Bridge Street, which may have been a lodging house. However on her second marriage certificate to William CHATTERTON on 22 April 1939 she states her father as Edward CONNOR. I have checked the original register for Sarah Ellen and Edward's marriage and his surname is CLASBY. The registrar may have misheard the name and therefore wrote as he heard it. Sarah Ellen had made a mark so presumably she could not read or write. However on Sarah Anns mothers death certificate the surname is spelt CALASBY.
