Prompt action by neighbours saved the life of Mrs Annie E Chatterton (45) of 18 St Johns' Walk, Sheffield who was terribly burned about the body when she fell into the fire at her home today and her clothing blazed up. She was taken to the Royal Hospital where she is detained.
Mrs Chatterton was alone in the living room of the house after seeing her sons off to work and it is thought she suddenly turned faint or dizzy and fell backwards onto the fire.
Although her clothing was blazing fiercely, she rushed out of the house into St Johns' Walk shouting for assistance.
Her next door neighbour, Mr Benjamin Lawson, promptly went to her aid.
Helped by another neighbour, he wrapped rugs round her and smothered the flames.
In spite of her terrible ordeal, Mrs Chatterton did not lose consciouness"
